The Chardham yatra include Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Gangotri. These are the Dev Bhumi. We can go to trip only in summer to char Dham because these are the cold area. In winter all ways is to be closed because all mountains and ways are to be covered by snow. And in winter there is the snow falling. This is trip of summer season. Normally Char Dham open in mid May and close in November. Details of Char Dham one by one:-
Badrinath:- Badrinath is situated in the lap of Nar-Narayan Parvat, with the towering Neelkanth peak (6,597mts.) in the background. Also known as the Vishal Badri, the largest among the five Badris, it is revered by all as the apt tribute to Lord Vishnu. To go the badrinath from Haridwar we can go by bus, mini bus, car etc. this is about 300 kilometer from Haridwar. Once the rains come travel is extremely dangerous: extensive road building has critically destabilized the rocks, and fatal landslides and bus/jeep accidents are a regular yearly occurrence, with mortality rates for a season often surpassing 200. Despite the danger, pilgrims do continue to visit the Char Dham Yatra / Tour in the monsoon period, as well as after the rains end.
Kedarnath:- Kedarnath is named in honor of King Kedar who ruled in the Satya Yuga. He had a daughter named Vrinda who was a partial incarnation of Goddess Laxmi. She performed austerities for 60000 years. In honour of her, the land is named Vrindavan. However, Kedarnath and its temple exist from the Mahabharata Era when the pandavas are supposed to have pleased Lord Shiva by doing penance there.
To reach the Kedarnath we can go by helicopter and by foot for a steep 14 km. trek though a paved path from Gaurikund.
Yamunotri:- it is the source of uamuna river seat of Yamuna in Hinduism. The temple of Yamuna, on the left bank of the Yamuna, was constructed by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal. The deity is made of black marble. The Yamuna, like the Ganges, has been elavated to the status of a divine mother for the Hindus and has been held responsible for nurturing and developing the Indian civilization.
Gangotri:- As the legend goes, King Bhagirath used to worship Lord Shiva at the sacred stone, near which this 18th century temple is located. The slab on which King Bhagirath is believed to have meditated is called Bhagirathi Shila. The mother Ganga is worshipped as Goddess and the holy river in the temple. Before performing the Puja rituals, a holy dip in the Ganga flowing nearby the temple is a must. The Pujari's (priest) belong to Brahmin community from Mukhwa village. Ten of them are selected by rotation every year to perform all the functions covering the temple and they also perform the duties of pandas
